New Short

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

There’s a new short on the site featuring Justin Yoo. It’s called “Goodbye, for now.” It’s short (3:20), and tells the story of an unemployed asian cowboy and his son. The film is silent, shot entirely to Sufjan Steven’s “John Wayne Gacy Jr.”

The last scene of the movie was shot in the middle of the night and required many takes and methods. It was completed around 2:15 a.m.

Night Series

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

If you look at the right-most tab at the top of the screen, you’ll notice that it’s labeled “Night Series.” What is the “Night Series?” you may ask. It’s actually a series we’ve developed based on Poker Night, a short film we created in 2004. Poker Night is the first short in this series, and to obtain maximum enjoyment, we recommend you watch the “Night Series” in order, starting with Poker Night. The films are meant to be ridiculous and both Ping Pong Night and Pool Night were filmed last night after 2 a.m.

Whether or not we’ll create more is unknown.

Children of Men

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

Tonight, I headed out to Santa Monica blvd. to watch Alfonso Cuaron’s new film, Children of Men. The film had some of the best cinematography I’ve seen all year, and that’s not a joke referring to the fact that it’s January 2nd. Many shots had a handheld documentary feel to them, and several intense scenes were choreographed perfectly to be done in one lenghty take. Even if you don’t enjoy the movie as a whole, I think it’s worth seeing for its aesthetic value.

According to Cuaron, Clive Owen “drives the film through apathy” in a day and age where most of humanity is passive. Owen’s performance is great in playing a very unconvential hero by Hollywood’s standards.

As a sci-fi film, Children of Men won’t change the way you think or envision the future, but it will definitely be a very powerful and interesting movie-going experience. The cinematography, coupled with the directing, creates a whole world that will draw you in and leave you speechless.

After viewing the film, I came home to browse imdb.com and found this in the “Goofs” section:

Factual errors:
In the scene where the car is driving backwards hunted by people, and a black Enduro motorcycle is after the car, it sounds clearly like a four stroke engine. However, when it gets hit by the door and falls down, it sounds like a two stroke bike.

I laughed to myself wondering how these things are noticed, and how the person noticing it is even sure of what he or she is typing. I came up with this “Faux Goof” to pass the time.

Continuity errors:
When Theo is standing outside a building in London, buttoning his coat, a magnification of the soundtrack reveals that the button he is fingering is plastic with no less than four holes. However, after the film cuts back from a shot of a building, a magnification of the soundtrack reveals that the button is clearly brass (no holes). Clive Owen apparently switched jackets in the matter of a few seconds!

Believable?

Happy New Year

Monday, January 1st, 2007

2006 felt short, yet unusually long. I spent the beginning of 2007 playing Uno Stacko at Joel’s house with a number of people bursting with New Year’s resolutions. It looked considerably like this; albeit, in my verison of the game the player on the right looks less asian and more like me.

But now that I think about it, I think I would have rather played this:

Giant Jenga.

So tell me, what are your New Year’s resolutions?
