Uncle Chen’s and Musicals

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

So let me tell you a little bit about my day.

7:14 am - I wake up look at the clock. My dog jumps into my bed. “F u,” I say aloud. I sleep.

11:00 am - I wake up. Ok, yeah it’s still pretty early, i’ll wake up in 30 minutes.

11:30 am - still asleep

12:45 pm - I hear my mom’s voice. “Abteen it’s 1 o clock. Wake up.”

1:00 pm - I go to the bathroom to start my day.

1:15 pm - I eat a danish for breakfast.

1:40 pm - I begin to edit my newest movie: Digital Love. It’s a musical. And it’s looking really good. All of a sudden my 50 gb partition for editing runs out of room. It takes me 2 hours to shift stuff around and let Avid load. I do some chemistry homework to pass the time, which never happens on a Saturday. So I was pretty pissed.

4:00 pm - I continue editing

4:30 pm - I get past the first music video. I tell Evan and Robert to come over to watch it. They come at seperate times for some reason, but it’s still cool.

7:30 pm - Ryan really wants to eat. Robert is at my house. We are watching what I’ve edited so far. Robert laughs.

8:45 pm - Ryan fixes my watch. He takes the wheel while I’m driving so I can put it on. A song plays on the radio that pretty much sums up how good it feels to have a watch again. I think about singing along but then I realize I don’t know the words.

9:00 pm - We decide to eat at Red Robin’s. What a mistake. We get there, it is really depressing. A really buff man in cowboy boots with a typical cowboy tattoo (what?) pulls a cigarette out of the box with his mouth. No one is really there to serve us and we really don’t want to eat there after a careful analysis of the surroundings (little girls birthday party, cowboys, and a Navajo family that wants to kill everyone in the room).

9:30 pm - We decide to head off toward Encino on Ventura to find somewhere to eat. Finally we stop at Uncle Chen’s. Oh God, Uncle Chen’s.

9:45 pm - The only other family inside of Uncle Chen’s leaves, leaving us in solitude and darkness. There is a waterfall making noise and the food comes. As noted in my account of my day, the only other thing I had all day was a danish, which was at 1:15. At this point, I’m willing to eat anything. I order Tangerine Chicken. It has little taste, but really I’m not thinking about anything. I was in a trance, my mind was completely blank. All I needed to do was clear that chicken off my plate and leave, slightly happier than I entered the room. I was pretty mad going in.

10:20 pm - We pay and the lights in the restaurant go out. Wow, how depressing. It was as if the owner had invited us over for dinner. An intimate and alone meal with complete strangers in a Chinese restaurant with a typical Chinese last name in a different city than where I live.

10:25 pm - I call Diana. I had the intention of actually talking but then I realized I was on Uncle Chen’s (which is now a drug in 45 states). They give you oranges when you’re done with your chicken so basically, your stomach dies from the intense combination of citrus. At that point, I couldn’t distinguish citrus from non citrus products. I think I know how it feels to be dead, but I’m pretty sure it’s more relaxing than finishing Uncle Chen’s.

10:30 pm - I watch the last half of the movie Ray. I like that movie. It is good.

11:30 pm - Matt Boylan calls me a couple times. This shouldn’t even be on here.

12:00 am - I type this. Maybe I’ll edit some more. I have to write an 8 page paper tomorrow so I’m working on typing long stuff like this. I’m sorry this wasn’t that funny, I’m still on Uncle Chen’s.

Valentine’s

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Happy valentine’s day, thugs.

We’re filming a rap musical this weekend.  That’s right, rap musical.  It’s like a regular musical but instead of dancing and singing we wave our arms around and spit rhymes over pre-recorded beats.  We’ve recorded three very short songs already and hopefully may throw in a couple more.  This is tightest (not tight as in fat with a ph) schedule I’ve had to work on a film so hopefully we’ll see what the end result is.  One weekend of filming + one day of editing.  Oh dear, God.
